Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors challenge. The challenge is to write a story or excerpt from a story you’ve been working on in 8-10 sentences. Take the time to check out other writers at the link above!

I stared at the pool of blood gathering around Milo’s twitching body. Just minutes before he’d broken into my house for the third time that semester. We dated last year for about a month but he creeped me out so I broke it off; he’d begun stalking me not long after. This time, as I hid behind my sofa, him ranting in the middle of my living room, calling me a bitch and a whore for not giving him a chance, I wished that he’d go away forever.

“But,” I stutter, “how will I explain this?”

“Death is just part of the cycle of life,” the pale and abnormally slender woman said as she swiped the onyx-colored knife across the back of Milo’s white t-shirt before literally evaporating into nothingness.

Twenty minutes later, as police comb through my apartment, take pictures of his body and grill me with questions; I spot, near his body, the small purple crystal he snatched from my neck when he began attacking me.

I guess the death spell actually worked.

Thanks for coming to check out my #8Sunday submission.

I’ve done a few of these before so feel free to roam the dcedwards.com site for other excerpts.

Also, if you want to check out my completed novel, Bright City, it’s available on Amazon.

  1. The final sentence tells it all. Great hook for the rest of the story. So were they in college? You mentioned semester, but they seem too old for high school. Fantastic snippet!
