Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors challenge. The challenge is to write a story or excerpt from a story you’ve been working on in only eight sentences. Take the time to check out other writers at the link above!

I adopted Bryce on the 15th of May almost seven years ago. The people at the agency were eager for him to leave.

I took him to specialists from the beginning. He was quiet, unusually organized, and radiated an intense energy that, believe it or not, was an icy blue–almost clear like Husky eyes.

They attempted to diagnose him and he resisted their tests. My heart swelled with pride.

I knew I’d find one of my own, hidden amongst the human filth I’ve been tasked to study.

I smile as he makes another incision into the body of one of the human captives; he’s taking to our profession quite well.

Thanks for coming to check out my #8Sunday submission.

I’ve done a few of these before so feel free to roam the dcedwards.com site for other excerpts.

Also, if you want to check out my completed novel, Bright City, it’s available on Amazon.

  1. I like how the subtle tension–the agency wanting the kid gone, the testing, etc., builds up to the use of “filth” so you’re expecting something terrible to come. Now I’m really curious how they’re different. (Other than scary.)
