Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors challenge. My hope is that over the next six months you’ll see either a nice & tidy 8-10 sentence flash fiction story or an excerpt from a piece I’m working on (like the one below). Check out other writers at the link above and the Weekend Writing Warriors twitter #8sunday. After this snippet you can find earlier links to this story. This piece is entitled “Castille’s Stone.”

Whenever I think about humans I can’t get Liam out of my head. I take a deep drink out of the closest bottle of scotch on the crowded table and will him out of my mind.
Liam; long limbed, ebony skinned, emerald eyed beauty who just so happened to be a practicing witch, my first love, and a cheating bastard. Even though he introduced me to it, I can’t blame him for my belladonna habit. No, that came later–much later. But I want to blame him; just so I won’t give in to his 3am phone calls.
“Reven, put your phone down, we are not doing Liam tonight. No ma’am,” Porsche says, snatching the phone out of my hand.
I didn’t even realize I picked up my phone; had flipped to his picture, my finger hovering above the green call button. Porsche gives me the side-eye and pulls me towards the dance floor. We almost make it to the middle of the crowd when gun blasts echo above us.

Intriguing piece. I am looking forward to reading more!
I love how she calls him a cheating bastard. Great on the cliff hanger. Now I want to know who shot who. I enjoyed the snippet.
You’ve hinted at so much in just a few sentences: a past relationship; Liam’s personal shortcomings; her personality; and finally, violence.
Uh oh, I think someone’s still got it bad. There’s some serious history there, and I want to know more about it!
It seems like maybe he’s still her love interest, the way she can’t stop thinking about him.
