Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors challenge. My hope is that over the next six months you’ll see either a nice & tidy 8-10 sentence flash fiction story or an excerpt from a piece I’m working on (like the one below). Check out other writers at the link above and the Weekend Writing Warriors twitter #8sunday. I posted some of this a bit ago. It’s got a title, “Castille’s Stone.”
********************
“You know it, right? Castilles stone,” Elise says, pointing at the rock I twirl in my fingers, “I need this guy off my ass. Can you make it happen?”
“How did you get it? Where did you get it?” I say, pulling my eyes away from the glistening onyx colored gem.
“Does it matter,” she sighs.
“Yes, this stone. You know about this stone right,” I say, handing it back to her; the vibrations of its power lingering on my fingertips.
“Look,” she says, shifting in her seat pushing her face closer to mine and twirling the stone between two fingers, “I won it.”
“Doing?”
“Playing Keembo.”
Keembo, the card game of the fae. The only time they can lie to one another. I’ve watched a couple of those games growing up. My mother was at the service of Queen Tatiana, queen of Light, Sun, Life. This young fae’s liege.
Clearly the stone’s provenance is important in some way. You’ve got me wondering if there’s magic or danger associated with it.
Ooo… A mysterious stone, fae card games, and a mother working for Queen Tatiana? Oh man… I sense all kinds of trouble on the way. Great snippet!
Interesting, for sure. I look forward to reading some of your flash fiction.
